The Cahuilla indians commemorated their original migration into their homes in Southern California by singing the "Birdsong cycle?" Paloyoloyo is a part of this cycle, a song of celebration and remembrance written more than four hundred years ago. Originally, rattles were used as accompaniment, but by the mission era, they had adopted the drums used by other nearby tribes.
